By JULY 24, 2018 8:37:22PMThe New York skyline is lit up by thousands of balloons on the streets of New York.
The lights are a nod to New York’s birthday celebrations, which are traditionally attended by hundreds of thousands of people.
The tradition is one that dates back to the 19th century, when balloons were launched to mark the birthday of President James Madison.
The New Year is traditionally celebrated in New Orleans, and the balloons will be lit up for the first time in the city in New Years Day, according to a tweet from the New Orleans Department of Public Works.
This is the first year balloons have been lit up in New England, according the department, and balloons will also be lit in the northern part of the United Kingdom, where a year-long event is planned for Jan. 3.
In the United States, balloons are being lit up on the White House lawn in Washington, D.C. and in the Lincoln Memorial.
In New York, balloons will go up for a new holiday, the 30th anniversary of the New York World’s Fair, with the balloons going up for all of January, according a tweet by the department.
The balloons will fly for a half hour, with a half-hour special, according CNN.
The city has a number of traditions, including the 30-second countdown to the birthday party, and fireworks will be launched to celebrate the occasion.
The birthday balloons are designed to bring people together and create a festive atmosphere, according New York Mayor Bill de Blasio.
It’s a tradition that was born in New New York and continues to be a tradition here,” he said in a statement.
